With the Powers conferred on Him, The Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda launches ‘Operation Sanity’.

The Local Government By-Laws of Councils assented to by the Mayor on the 9th June 2020 for the Kanifing Municipality.

Sections 4, 7, 8, and 9 of the By-Laws mandates the council to exercise the powers conferred on the Mayor under section 54 of the Local Government Act. The above sections deals with Nuisance, removal of sand, gravel etc., private sewage pipes and disposal of waste products and hazardous substances.

The operation will look at the areas highlighted below:

1. Clean and clear waste on all major high ways and streets

2. Levy charges and collect refuse generated by occupants along the high ways and streets

3. Remove all derelict vehicles and any other machinery that obstruct the high ways and streets.

4. Levy charges on any derelict vehicle towed before collection by owners.

5. Remove and levy charges on sand and gravel owners that obstruct the high ways and streets.

6. All derelict vehicles or machinery articles be packed at the dump site.

7. Levy fines on any property found to connect sewage pipe to the public drains or street gutters

8. To charge or fine anyone found to burn any form of substance that is hazardous to humans or pose health repercussions.

9. To control and charge anyone stray animal owners whose herd are found grazing in the streets, highways, squares, avenues or public places.

All residents and businesses within the Muncipality are urged to comply for the common good of the Region!
