The Department of Planning and Development coordinates the creation and implementation of the Council’s plans through participatory approaches. The Department coordinates, monitors, supervises, and implements all development activities undertaken by the Council with the support of construction, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, physical planning, and urban planning staff.
PLANNING UNIT
The Planning Unit is responsible for the physical and urban planning of the Council. The Unit’s functions include: landscaping, sketch planning, mapping, designing buildings, and all other structural designs for the Council.
GIS & VALUATION UNIT
The GIS & Valuation Unit is established under the Department of Planning and Development to valuate properties within the municipality, in order to ensure commercial and residential properties in the municipality are charged a fair property tax rate. The GIS & Valuation Unit works closely with the Council’s Rates Unit (under the Department of Finance) and the Ministry of Lands & Regional Government to prepare the valuation roll for properties within the municipality. The Unit plays an integral role in ensuring effective rates collection for the Council’s primary revenue stream.
