The Lord Mayor joined UN and Government Officials at the National launch of the 2023-2024 Human Development Report, themed ‘Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining cooperation in a polarized world.’ The report highlights the troubling trend of uneven development, leaving the poorest behind and exacerbating global inequality. Urgent collective action is needed to address this dangerous gridlock, as emphasized by the United Nations Development Programme. Rich countries have seen record-high human development, while half of the world’s poorest nations have regressed, underscoring the impact of political polarization and distrust on global challenges.
