MAYOR BENSOUDA LAUNCHES KMC’S FIRST-EVER COMPREHENSIVE BY-LAWS

The Kanifing Municipal Council organized a press conference to formally introduce KMC’s By-Laws, 2020.

The press conference came following the promulgation of the By-Laws, which were passed by KMC’s General Council under the leadership of the Lord Mayor.

In his deliberations, the Mayor explained that the By-Laws captured under SUPPLEMENT “A” TO THE GAMBIA GAZETTE, NO. 34 of 9th June, 2020 and LEGAL NOTICE No. 26 of 2020 are the first-ever comprehensive By-Laws in KMC. They are geared towards organizing the Municipality. Some of the offences covered in the By-Laws include waste management, illegal dumping, poor sewage pipe connections, road obstruction, public nuisance, property maintenance, etc.

Mayor Bensouda stated that the By-Laws provide rules and standards in the Municipality. The Council will work with the entire security apparatus to enforce these By-Laws.

“Public sensitization in all local languages will soon commence in the media and community outreach via the Council’s Community Service Unit and Ward Development Committees’ Offices will follow” the Lord Mayor revealed.

The event was attended by members of the Kanifing Municipality’s Security Task Force, KMC senior management and members of the press.
