KMC Launches Waste Management Initiative Using Google Plus Codes!






This morning, Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) officially launched the “Leveraging Google Plus Codes to Improve Waste Management and the Local Social Contract in Kanifing” project.
This innovative initiative is a collaboration between KMC and international research team from the University of Essex
The goal is to harness the power of Google Plus Codes to transform KMC’s services and improve the lives of our residents by Expanding access to essential public services like the Mbalit waste collection service, strengthening waste management systems, enhancing local infrastructure, environmental quality, and public health
The project was officially launched at a brief ceremony attended by Ward Councillor, Alkalolou, WDC members, KMC staff, Key project stakeholders, including representatives from the University of Essex
The project’s pilot and evaluation phases will run from 2025 to 2026, with two independent surveys targeting 4,000 households planned for December 2024 and early 2026 to assess the impact
This project is funded by the Fund for Innovation in Development with a budget of 30 million Dalasi, including 11 million Dalasi allocated directly to KMC activities.
