Environment and Sanitation Committee

The Committee has eight (8) members comprising three (3) Councillors, three subject matter specialists, one staff and one (1) Ex-Co members. All the subject matter specialists are non-staff of the Council. The CEO sits in the Committee as an Ex-Officio member.

TERMS OF REFERENCE OF THE COMMITTEE

The Committee is mandated:

  1. To review and monitor the Environment and Sanitation policies and activities of the Council to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  2. To design strategies for the protection and preservation of strategic ecosystems, in conjunction with the support and cooperation of the communities living in the zone of influence of protected areas within the Municipality.
  3. To recommend to Council actions for developing policies, programs and procedures to ensure that the health, safety and security of Communities are being adhered to and achieved;
  4. To monitor management’s action plans to address emerging issues and review the sufficiency of resources available for carrying out the actions and activities recommended;
  5. To review and recommend for approval corporate objectives as they relate to Environmental health and safety and monitor the Council’s performance against the objectives;
  6. Such other functions as the Council may delegate or assign to the Committee.

The Committee meets monthly unless required otherwise.
