Today, the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) convened a session of the General Council, where members deliberated on a key agenda item: the ongoing rehabilitation programme for 22 Mbalit waste collection trucks aimed at extending their operational lifespan, improving reliability, and enhancing service delivery across the municipality.

The Council received a comprehensive presentation from Mr. B.B. Darboe, Manager of the Mbalit Project, who provided a technical overview of the current condition of the fleet, ongoing maintenance interventions, and strategies being implemented to improve vehicle durability and operational efficiency.

During the session, councilors engaged in a robust discussion, raising questions and providing input on fleet management, maintenance planning, cost-effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. Mr. Darboe highlighted that KMC has already initiated several rehabilitation measures and is actively pursuing strategic partnerships to strengthen the municipal fleet.

Among the initiatives discussed is a collaboration with Espace Motors, which is currently under implementation and is expected to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of the waste collection fleet. The partnership forms part of KMC’s broader efforts to modernize waste management operations, reduce downtime, and ensure consistent sanitation services for residents.

The rehabilitation of the Mbalit fleet represents a significant investment in strengthening municipal service delivery and reinforces KMC’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Kanifing Municipality.
